Activities on Raasay

Raasay offers a variety of activities;

see the book Island Walks by Stephen Whitehorne or you can visit the museum run by Raasay Heritage Trust. The Raasay Outdoor Centre is currently closed for refurbishment and restoration work. This is scheduled to be completed in February 2009, but Outdoor Centre staff can be contacted through the above link for the latest information regarding bookings for 2009. Perhaps you would prefer to explore the forest walks, high moor land paths, coastal tracks or go to the beach. The kids will love cycling too...and not just the kids. The inaugural Raasay Rumble mountain bike enduro race was held in September and was heralded as a great success.

Bring a sketch-book as there is plenty reference material. Make use of your camera too, as there are Red deer, hare and otters to make that perfect picture. Go birdwatching, zoom-in, catch-a-glimpse of the sea-eagle, buzzard and grouse. Visit the lost townships of Screapadal and Hallaig.

Get a fishing permit and try some fresh water trout fishing on one of the lochs. In autumn try shooting (as The Raasay Crofters Association operate a cull policy).

You will be spoilt for choice for things to see and do on Raasay.

Be persuaded, stay a while, book in at the Isle of Raasay Hotel.
